JLPT N5 · Grammar
Highlighted parts are the fixed pieces of the pattern; the rest changes with the word you attach it to.
## What does 「も」 mean?
「も」 means **also** or **too**.
You use 「も」 when the same information is true for another person or thing.
Imagine this conversation.
Person A says:
**わたし は がくせい です。**
(I am a student.)
You are also a student.
Instead of saying the whole sentence again, you say:
**わたし も がくせい です。**
(I am also a student.)
The particle 「も」 replaces 「は」.
You do NOT say:
❌ わたし は も がくせい です。
You also do NOT say:
❌ わたし は がくせい も です。
Always put 「も」 where 「は」 normally goes.
### Formula
Noun + も + Noun + です
### When do we use it?
Use 「も」 when something is true for another person or object.
Example:
A: わたし は にほんじん です。
B: わたし も にほんじん です。
Both people are Japanese.
### Easy Memory
は = talks about one topic.
も = this is true **too**.
Think:
'I also.'
'He also.'
'This also.'
Whenever you want to say 'also' or 'too', use 「も」.
わたし も がくせい です。
I am also a student.
かれ も せんせい です。
He is also a teacher.
これ も ほん です。
This is also a book.
あの ひと も いしゃ です。
That person is also a doctor.
あなた も にほんじん ですか。
Are you also Japanese?
