## What it means **で** marks the place where something happens. It answers the question "where did you do that?"
## When to use it Attach で directly after a place noun, then follow with the action verb: **Place + で + Verb**. For example, 図書館で勉強します means "I study at the library" — 図書館 (library) is where the studying happens.
## Don't confuse it with This で is easy to mix up with **に**, which can also follow place words. The difference: **に** marks where something *exists* or where someone/something is *going*, while **で** marks where an action *takes place*. Compare 図書館にいます ("I am at the library" — existence) with 図書館で勉強します ("I study at the library" — an action happening there).
図書館で勉強します。
I study at the library.
公園で遊びます。
We play in the park.
レストランで昼ご飯を食べました。
I ate lunch at a restaurant.
どこで買いましたか。
Where did you buy it?
家で音楽を聞きません。
I don't listen to music at home.
会社で働きます。
I work at the company.
