## What it means どんな means "what kind of ~?" It's the question word you use when you want a description, not just a name or a number.

## When to use it Put どんな directly before a noun: どんな音楽が好きですか ("what kind of music do you like?"). The answer usually comes back as a description or an adjective, not a single item or name.

## Don't confuse it with どんな is easy to mix up with どの. どの means "which one" out of a specific, known group — どの本ですか ("which book, out of these?"). どんな asks for a description of qualities when there's no set list to choose from — どんな本が好きですか ("what kind of books do you like?"). If you can point at a group of options, use どの; if you're asking for a general description, use どんな.
