JLPT N5 · Grammar
Highlighted parts are the fixed pieces of the pattern; the rest changes with the word you attach it to.
## What it means どうやって means "how" in the sense of "by what method" or "in what way" — you're asking about the steps or means someone uses to do something, like how they get to work or how to cook a dish.
## When to use it Put どうやって at the start of the sentence, before the verb, when you're asking about a method: どうやって会社へ行きますか means "How do you get to work?" (by train, by car, and so on).
## Don't confuse it with Don't mix this up with plain どう, which asks for someone's impression or opinion, like どうですか ("How is it?" / "What do you think?"). どうやって always asks about a method or process, while どう alone asks how something seems or feels. Using どう when you actually mean "by what method" tends to confuse the listener.
