Highlighted parts are the fixed pieces of the pattern; the rest changes with the word you attach it to.
## What it means These are small words that tell you exactly where something is located: on top of, under, in front of, behind, inside, next to, near, between, outside, on the left, or on the right.
## When to use it Attach a position word to a noun with の, and then usually follow it with に before あります or います. The pattern is [Noun] + の + [position word] + に. For example, テーブルの上に (on top of the table) or 駅の前に (in front of the station).
## Don't confuse it with The most common slip is forgetting の between the noun and the position word, saying something like テーブル上に instead of テーブルの上に. Always keep the の in there, even though English doesn't need an equivalent word.
猫はテーブルの上にいます。
The cat is on the table.
本は椅子の下にあります。
The book is under the chair.
駅の前に花屋があります。
There's a flower shop in front of the station.
学校の後ろに公園があります。
There's a park behind the school.
箱の中に何がありますか。

銀行は郵便局の隣です。
The bank is next to the post office.
家の近くにコンビニがあります。
