JLPT N5 · Grammar
Highlighted parts are the fixed pieces of the pattern; the rest changes with the word you attach it to.
## What it means This connects a な-adjective or a noun to the rest of the sentence, the same way くて connects い-adjectives — for example, "quiet and safe" or "a student and an athlete."
## When to use it Drop な and add で after a な-adjective, or add で directly after a noun. 静かな becomes 静かで, so 静かで安全な町です means "It's a quiet and safe town." With nouns, you can link two facts about someone, like 学生で、十九歳です ("I'm a student, and I'm nineteen").
## Don't confuse it with This is simply the な-adjective/noun version of い形容詞+くて — same job, different ending, because な-adjectives and nouns don't take くて. A common mix-up is adding くて to a な-adjective by mistake (saying ゆうめいくて instead of ゆうめいで). Always check whether the word is い or な before choosing the connector.
