## What it means This pattern means "please don't ~". It's a polite way to ask someone not to do something.
## When to use it Take the **nai-form** of a verb, then add でください. So 吸う ("to smoke") becomes 吸わない, and then 吸わないでください means "please don't smoke". It works the same way for any verb — build the nai-form first, then attach でください.
## Don't confuse it with This is the direct opposite of **〜てください** ("please do ~"), which uses the て-form instead of the nai-form. たべてください means "please eat", while たべないでください means "please don't eat" — the only difference is which form of the verb you use, so it's easy to mix them up if you're not paying attention to the verb ending.
ここでたばこを吸わないでください。
Please don't smoke here.
写真を撮らないでください。
Please don't take photos.
教室で食べないでください。
Please don't eat in the classroom.
心配しないでください。
