〜に行きます(目的)

## What it means This pattern says you go, come, or return somewhere **in order to** do something. It answers "why go there?" in one short phrase, like "I'm going to the store to buy milk."

## When to use it Take the **stem** of a verb (the part before ます) and attach に right before a movement verb: 買います → 買いに行きます (go to buy), 食べます → 食べに来ます (come to eat), 会います → 会いに帰ります (go home to meet). This pattern only works with movement verbs — mainly 行きます (go), 来ます (come), and 帰ります (go home/return).

## Don't confuse it with Don't confuse the purpose に here with the destination に you already know, like 学校に行きます (go to school). In 何を買いに行きますか, に attaches to a verb stem (買い) to show purpose. In 学校に行きます, に attaches to a place (学校) to show destination. Both can even appear together: デパートへ服を買いに行きます (I'm going to the department store to buy clothes).
