〜てください

## What it means てください means **"please do ~."** It's a polite way to ask someone to do something.

## When to use it Attach ください right after the **て-form** of a verb: 待って (te-form of 待つ) + ください → 待ってください (please wait). Because it's built on the て-form, you need to know how to make that form first for the verb you want to use. This phrase is polite enough for teachers, coworkers, or strangers, but it's still a request, so it's common to soften it further with すみませんが before it.

## Don't confuse it with Don't mix this up with 〜ましょう, which is a suggestion meaning "let's do ~" together, not a request aimed at someone else. 待ってください means "please wait" (I'm asking you), while 待ちましょう means "let's wait" (both of us). Also, てください is a request for someone to **do** something — it isn't for asking for an object. For that, use ください alone after a noun, like 水をください (water, please), or ないでください if you want to ask someone **not** to do something, like 座らないでください (please don't sit here).
