JLPT N5 · Grammar
Highlighted parts are the fixed pieces of the pattern; the rest changes with the word you attach it to.
## What it means てくれます describes someone kindly doing something for you, or your family, the focus is on **their kindness** toward you, often without you even asking.
## When to use it Attach くれます to the **て-form** of a verb, marking the helper with が: 友達が手伝ってくれました ('My friend kindly helped me'). Use it only when the action benefits you or someone close to you.
## Don't confuse it with てくれます and てもらいます both involve someone helping you, but the spotlight is different: てくれます highlights the helper's kindness, often unprompted, while てもらいます highlights you receiving the benefit and can imply you asked for it. Compare 友達が手伝ってくれました ('My friend helped me out, how nice') with 友達に手伝ってもらいました ('I got my friend to help me').
