JLPT N5 · Grammar
Highlighted parts are the fixed pieces of the pattern; the rest changes with the word you attach it to.
## What it means と here means "**with**" - it introduces the person you're doing something together with, not the place you're going or how you're getting there.
## When to use it Put the person's name right before と, optionally add 一緒に (together) for extra emphasis, and then finish with any verb. 一緒に is optional - と by itself already means "with," so 友達と行きます and 友達と一緒に行きます both mean "I'm going with a friend."
## Don't confuse it with Since へ marks a destination and で marks a means of transport, don't accidentally use either one for a companion - と is the only particle here that introduces a person you're doing something with. A common beginner mix-up is writing 友達へ行きます when they mean "with a friend"; that sentence actually says "I'm going to my friend," as if the friend were the destination.
